PostSubject: Match Coverage! Battle of the 2 Sams Top 16 Qualifiers Match   Mon Jan 26, 2009 12:39 am

Coverage by: Bladeknight89 (Your Reporter of the Day!)
Match 1: Sam Vs Samuel (Soft Vs Hard)
Decks: Light Undead Vs Tele Dark Armed

The hot humid day began the intense competition of the day. 16 top tier players of Singapore gather to vie for the top position as Khatib CC New Year Tournament Champion. This is Bladeknight89 here, your reporter of the day and it's time to bring you to the closeup match of the day between the 2 Sams!

Round 1:
The game began with intense shuffling from both players. Sam started off with a wink at Samuel. Samuel, appeared unfraid of his opponent's immediate advances just before the game. Sam was stressed, his tactics at the start had not work.
Samuel started first, after drawing his cards, he was deep in thoughts. Sam suddenly declared that Samuel will win the game (probably to distract him from thinking ^^)
Samuel opened play with a face up clevonse and set 1 M/T. It was Sam's turn, he summoned a Raiou and declared attack on Clevonse but was easily ran over by Samuel's Mirror Force. He set 3 M/T face-down. A move to add pressure to his opponent's chances at attacking.
It was Samuel's turn, he declared a direct attack on Sam but Clevonse hit a D.Prison. Sam exclaimed, "Bye Bye". Samuel set a monster facedown and ended his turn. Sam summoned Black Knight of Dark Dragon and attacked the facedown monster. To his surprise, he attacked a Zombie Carrier and immediately activated Black Knight of Dark Dragon's effect to special summon Samuel's Zombie Carrier to his field and ended his turn. It was Samuel's turn, he normal summoned Dark Grepher, activated its effect and send Zombie Carrier in his hand to the grave and send D-Hero Malicious to the grave. He declared attack on his own Zombie Carrier and ended his turn.
Sam summoned Pyramid Turtle and suicided it for Goblin Zombie. Black Knight of Black Dragon attacked Dark Grepher and Goblin Zombie directed attack on Samuel, dropping a Destiny Draw from Samuel's deck top. It was Samuel's turn, he was at a huge field disadvantage. He activated Allure of Darkness and Sam activates Magic Drain, Samuel passes. He activates D-Hero Malicious's effect and special summons a D-Hero Malicious to the field and also activates Zombie Carrier's effect. He synchroed these 2 monster for a Stardust Dragon! Samuel has managed to get his advantage back. With 3 Dark monsters in grave, Samuel special summons Dark Armed Dragon. Sam askes Samuel to Bom Bom (Bath?I have no idea...) With the last D-Hero Malicious still available for special summon, Samuel takes advantage of it and chains Emergency Teleport to bring out Mental Master! With Dark Dive Bomber,Dark Armed Dragon and Stardust Dragon on his field, Samuel clinches his first win of the match!

Side Decking begins swiftly...Samuel switches out 4 cards while Sam brings out 7-8 cards, seemingly aware of the need to change his strategy.

Round 2
Sam begin play with 2 set M/T and a set monster. Samuel draws and plays Heavy Storm which was blocked by Sam's Magic Drain, Samuel discards Destiny Draw to proceed with Heavy Storm's effect. Samuel sets 2 M/T and ends. Sam summons Black Knight of Black Dragon and direct attacks Samuel and ends his turn. It was Samuel's turn, he activated his facedown Mystical Space Typhoon and ends. Sam continued his aggressive attacks and ended. Sam drew into a Clevonse, summoned it and ended. Sam declared attack on Clevonse but Samuel activated Clevonse effect and negated it with 800LP..Samuel has been constantly taking damage rounds by rounds and things were not looking so good. Samuel drew and set a facedown M/T. Sam summoned Gokuen-Darkness Gear and declared attack on Clevonse only to meet heavy resistance from Mirror Force...left with no other options, Sam ended his turn.
Samuel was finally able to break the attacking barrier that Sam had build. He declared attack on the facedown monster that Sam had set on the first turn with Clevonse only to hit into Honest!!Sam drew,he returned Honest to his hand and set 1 card to each field. Play passed a few turns with Sam adding an additional M/T to his set defense.
Samuel summoned Breaker but was immediately removed by Bottomless Traphole. Sam set an 3 additional M/T while Samuel set 2 monsters for the consecutive turns. Sam now has 5 set M/T, a considerably large defense!
Samuel plays Allure of Darkness, removes D-Hero Malicious from his hand. Sam summons Raiou and ends. The current LP is Sam (8000), Samuel (2700), with any wrong move, Samuel would lose. Samuel tributed his set Zombie Carrier to normal summon D-Hero Malivious in attack position, activates Brain Control to target Sam's Raiou. Sam chains Rivalry of Warlords while Samuel chains Crush Card Virus to tribute D-Hero Malicious as a cost. Sam chains D.D Crow to the cost and removes D-Hero Malicious from the game, Samuel ends his turn. Sam reveals Solemn Judgement as his draw and ends. Samuel draw and puts his Clevonse to defense position.Sam reveals Royal Oppression and ends and consecutively after Samuel passes play, Sam reveals Pyramid Turtle. He summons Pyramid Turtle and attacks Clevonse,in response activates Malevolent Catastrophe destroying all M/Ts on the field. Sam sets 3 M/T thereby refilling his defense again. Samuel activates Allure of Darkness and removes D.D Crow, he summons Dark Grepher and a set M/T. Sam attacks with Pyramid Turtle but was again stopped by Malevolent Catastrophe!!Samuel had 2 in hand!!
Sam would not allow it and activates Enemy Controller to change Dark Grepher to defense position. Samuel set a M/T and a monster. Play passed a few turns, Sam summoned Zombie Carrier and tunes it with his Pyramid Turtle to bring out Goyou Guardian (HIMSELF!,a huge boost to his own morale).Goyou Guardian attacks into Dark Grepher and special summons it to his field and ends his turn. Samuel activates Allure of Darkness removing Gors-Emissary of Darkness as he no longer has additional LP to bring out Gors. He flip summoned Knight of the End and activates Emergency Teleport to bring out Clevonse but Clevonse was immediately stopped by Book of Moon. Samuel was unpertubed, he activates his backup Emergency Teleport on his set M/T field and brings out Psychic Commander to synchro summon Black Rose Dragon!
His hopes were immediately dashed when Sam activates Royal Opression and negated Black Rose Dragon's special summon. With no other option, Samuel plays Reinforcement of the Army and searches for D-Hero Defender, set it facedown and ended. LP now is Sam (2800), Samuel (1900).
With nothing much to be done, Sam uses Goyou Guardian and his huge field to attack Samuel for the Win!
The round definitely took a long time to finish...

With the score at 1-1,
The last side decking begins and Samuel can be seen changing a total of 5 cards while Sam maintains his current deck, satisfied with the way that it is performing.

Round 3:
Samuel started first, he plays Reinforcement of the Army and brings out E-Hero Airman to search for D-Hero Malicious. He plays Destiny Draw, sending D-Hero Malicious to the grave and ends. Sam sets 3 M/T and 1 monster before ending his turn.
Samuel plays Giant Trunade but was again stopped by Magic Drain, but it was only temporary, Samuel discards Lightning Vortex and Giant Trunade's effect resolves, returning all M/T to the owner's hand. Samuel plays Reinforcement of the Army again and searches for D-Hero Diamond Dude and plays Destiny Draw again! From Sam's face, you could tell he was under tremendous stress from his opponent's constant draws. Samuel activates D-Hero Malicious effect and normal summons Clevonse, immediately tuning them to bring out Dark End Dragon. Samuel plays another Emergency Teleport and Sam knows..without thinking that victory has been claimed by Samuel!!
It was all in all a befitting match of the top 16 players

What an intensive match and ultimately Hard Sam won Soft Sam! =.= I'm dead beat from all the typing haha,my first time writing on match coverages,do gimme your support ^^..yup hope you guys enjoyed reading..Cheers!
